Last week we spent a busy few days on the boat finishing painting, tiling, converting the lights to 12V, ripping things out and putting things up. It’s slowly getting there and we can’t wait to move on permanently in a few weeks!
We also took her out for her first spin with us! A lovely fellow called Bernard from the Monmouth & Brecon canal volunteer trust came down to give us a hand, taking her an hour up and down the canal with us. He was brilliant and gave us so many stories and tips! Gladly he also didn’t freak out when I bumped the side of the canal, oops. Steering a tiller is super easy, but can also be super confusing as left = right and right = left. If you forget yourself for a moment or start chatting, it’s so easy to mix them up!
Luckily he was there to reverse the boat back into the marina, which was such a tight turn… we’ll only have to take it out forwards when we get the boat craned, which I have to say I’m glad about!
So we’re currently sorting through all our stuff and trying to get rid of 80-90% of it before moving onto boaty… I used to be a bit of a hoarder but more recently have been trying to live a more minimalist life (apart from shoes of course). Everything’s gone to eBay, gumtree, freecycle and charity shops and it’s nice to feel a bit lighter!
The narrowboat is tiiiiny so we’re having to decide what we really really need and what can go. It’s also been a mission trying to find furniture which will fit! We bought a Habitat sofa as a second on eBay, so got a really good deal on it – it’s nice and compact so won’t take up too much space.
We’re also putting up Ikea shelves and rails in the kitchen to store pots and pans out of the way and found a lovely old trunk on eBay for storing all my Etsy stock and printer – it can also double as an extra seat with a cushion on top. Our dining table and chairs are also from Habitat and are folding, so they can be stored away when not in use.
There are quite a few jobs due to be done at the moment, some of which we need to call in the experts for (hull blacking, electrics, plumbing etc.) but we’re heading there next week to finish the painting and get on with a few projects and small jobs.
From about May/June we’ll be living on the boat permanently so I’ll be blogging much more about us two noobs sailing around and what we get up to…

Ok, so we’ve been planning this for a while but today we officially bought a narrowboat!! Here she is in all her glory and we have lots of plans for improvements, as well as the boring stuff like hull blacking, electrics and moving onto another canal by truck.
We’re SO excited to start living on the boat around April and we’ll both be working freelance from it and sailing around the UK, heading to London for the summer.
I’ll probably be writing a lot of boat updates on the blog once we get going and hopefully have a few before and after shots when we’ve done it up a bit 😉
Napoleon Dynamite paper dolls now in my shop!
Some new work…Tshirt design for Young + Idle
I was asked by a friend to create a website header for her collaborative blog, The Jar Belles. They’re such a talented bunch of people and I was so happy to be asked to create this! You’ll probably recognise lots of the subject matter I’m sure!
They’ve also used individual parts of the illustration throughout the website which looks awesome! My favourite part to draw was definitely Pussy Riot! 🙂
